Many autism parents don’t know that their child’s health insurance may cover diapers, pull-ups, and wipes if their child has a medical need (Autism Specrum Disorder) and struggles with potty training.
Follow these simple steps:
Call your child’s insurance company and ask if they cover medical supplies such as diapers, pull-ups, and wipes for your special needs child.
Tell your child’s pediatrician that your child is still having accidents and is struggling with potty training. Also mention that you are spending a fortune on diapers and wipes, and that you were told that their insurance could cover these expenses.
Ask the pediatrician to write your child a prescription for incontinence supplies (diapers/pull-ups/wipes).
Contact medical supply companies and ask if they accept your child’s insurance and provide diapers and wipes. Click here for a free list of some medical supply companies.
Send the prescription to the medical supply company so they can submit it to your insurance for approval.
Once approved, you can start receiving diapers and wipes delivered to your home through the supply company.
Most insurance companies require children to be age 3 or older and have a documented medical reason (Autism Spectrum Disorder) for needing incontinence supplies.
